AU-PAIR, SOMALIA and JULIÁN IS ON HIS WAY!

My friend Nikki is looking for an Au-pair. I tought Au-paring was a thing of the past, back when we all foreigners came to the UK to study english, but NO! It is still very much going on!

Basically you become part of a family and you look after the kids while the parents are at work. Accomodation and food is all catered for and you get some pocket money to spend on your free time!

Sooo.. if you can think or know of someone interested in spending the summer, 9 months or a whole year in Horsham, very near London, please drop me a line dtorra@yahoo.com or a comment in here and I´ll forward you the details.

Ideal!

Today I met CALVIN, he lives in the UK but he is from Somalia. so, my question is, what do we know about Somalia?

Somalia is located in the Horn of Africa with the Gulf of Aden to the north and the Indian Ocean to the east. It is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the northwest, and Kenya to the southwest. The capital is Mogadishu. It gained independence back in the sixties from British and Italian colonizers, but it has never been at peace. Somali is the national language with Arabic widely spoken due ties with the Arab World and english, italian also, but less and less. 2008 estimates population at 10 million. The southern half of the country, with the bulk of the population, as of November 2007, is unstable, following the 2006 Civil War between the Transitional Government and the Islamic Courts Union.

Conflict broke out between the Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counter-Terrorism (or "ARPCT") and a militia loyal to the I.C.U., seeking to institute Sharia law in Somalia. Social law changes, such as the forbidding of chewing khat, (khat contains an amphetamine-like stimulant which causes excitement and euphoria) and even the prohibition against watching movies and football in public, were part of moves by the ICU to change behaviours and impose strict social morals.

AND

on a happier note, JULIAN is soon boarding the plane to come to London!!!

PADANG - SUMATRA

Happy four days in Padang, Sumatra! Flown on Air Asia... Padang hasn´t got much to do but we had a great time!

DREAMZ - GENTING HIGHLANDS

Through the Spanish Embassy we got VIP tickets to see DREAMZ: It is a Cirque-Magic show at the Pavillion in Genting Heights by a spanish group of artists. Genting Heights is a mountain about 60km from KL which has all sorts of fairs, amusement park, cinemas and casino, most under roof as it is very cold up there!

brr qué frío! - it´s cold and cloudy!
Ash nos llevó por la difícil carretera!-Ash drove us up the steep road!

Con algunos de los artistas después del show - us with some of the spanish cast.

The show was excellent. The orchestra girls and her dancing maneuvres were very good-which we now copy!- But the best were the animals: a white tiger and a white lion which appeared from nowhere inside empty cages!

email from DANNY

I am very happy that my friend Danny had very good news today! His ops went really well and we all now can´t wait for him to fully recover so we can go out and celebrate!
Before the ops he went down to Barcelona and this he wrote:

Ah yes David! Really weird too! Went out friday, saturday, sunday and monday.
Friday nothing interesting happened even though we went to the openning of this new club D-BOY in Barcelona!. Saturday I went to an ex-work colleagues party and this guy I fancied completelly blank me... but it´s OK because he was all too young! sunday gave out my number to this muscle bear called Alfons... he never called back so fed up with it all I just couldn´t wait to fly back home on monday! so I woke up at 12 noon.... tired in bed too much drinking-clubbing... my friend G was at work and he called me and said you better don´t catch the plane cos you are not working till wednesday, so I started packing anyway and I thought oh gosh, get on the train to the airport, drag the suitcase, and then not sure if all still messed up by the snow in London and all so I decided to stay. Went out on my own while my friend was still at work. It started raining. So I had to seek refuge. SOOO the path led me to this gay sex shop.... WELL, apparently there was this party going on in there and a porn actor was there signing up copies of his latest CAZZO film.. his name is Milan Gamiani.. (google him or google CAZZO FILMS...)he kissed me (on the cheek :-( I got his signed picture and a picture taken with him! So all flushed came down from the stage and this gorgeous Venezuelan started talking to me... free champagne, canapes, jamon serrano and all... Bad news is that his boyf lives in London. Anyway, I then met up with G at another bar, and he brought with him his friend Iran who also brought his brazilian friend Junior. Then another Brazilian came and said hi: I have known him for a while, he is very nice and seemed interested in me but let´s not forget friday night he was at D-BOY and he was very busy... busier than me tonight! The evening was too much!!!He had to go anyway because wasn´t feeling too well so G left with him to give him a lift home, then Junior went with his mate Iran for something to eat so I was there on my own with the venezuelan. Very good looking but in a relationship, we swapped email and phone, and a kiss or two, then he had to go because he had to be at work tuesday am. (today?....yes, today.. getting time-confused!)sooo off to METRO where G was now waiting for me and Junior was there so tongues again... and as a good Brazilian he is a totally good kisser! he fell in love with me, he said I am his dream come true! a few tears, got a plane to catch and all that... never went back to his because we both had early starts and it felt like the right thing to do, it made the kissing really meaningfull...he has already texted me 3 times today... AGH! I know! I´m just back in England today... that´ll help!I should publish this in my blog! but I can´t cos my mum reads it!hope i entertained a bit... my grandma used to say I should be a clown.xx danny

BARCELONA 5-7APR. BAR PLATA, ENSAIMADAS DE LA MISTRAL y CENA EN EL BERRO

Another eventful weekend in Barcelona, just what I needed after the worst week at work for as long as I can remember!
Spent several evenings at Plata Bar, went to a new club called D-BOY, and of course re-visited CHAPS and METRO!

Plata Bar

WORKING HARD.

TERMINAL 5 has been a huge challenge. It still is. We moved offices at work and started on the 27th to face a huge uncoordinated mess. Too many people moving not only into a whole new building but to a whole lot of different jobs and processes. It is now somewhat improved and the shifts are becoming more normal, but we are paying the toll, and so are the thousands of passengers whose baggage has gone astray. Bad. Unforgettably bad. Cheer me up!
