SE ACABO EL FINDE - THE WEEKEND IS OVER

Este ha sido uno de los pocos fines de semana de los que disfruto sin trabajar, normalmente siempre trabajo en fin de semana o bien me he ido a Barcelona o de viaje por ahí. El viernes, despues de entrevistar gente para un puesto de trabajo (mi primera vez al otro lado de la mesa!) nos fuimos a bailar al Yatch Pier en Temple a una fiesta muy spanish en un barco... de spanish tenia bien poco.. solo la música!
El sábado, a cenar con Carlos e Isabel, recordando los viejos tiempos, 1995, cuando estábamos todos todavía en Barcelona y no teníamos ni email, y el domingo lo mejor: un buen brunch en casa!

This was one of the few weekends that I have off... I am usually working or away on a trip!.
Friday, after conducting job interviews, (my first time on the other side of the table!) we went for a dance to a spanish party on a boat on the Thames... not really very spanish, except for the music!
Saturday was dinner with Carlos and with Isabel... remembering the good times, when back in 1995 we were all still in Barcelona and we didn´t even have e-mail! Mind you, they seem they were good times, but back then, were they? We were always hoping for better times!
and Sunday at its best with a gourgeous healthy brunch!

Day two in Vienna... During the day we went with Michi for Lunch at a lovely restaurant in a huge park: Vienna at its best!

And the evening took us to Babsy´s gallery. We met Katja there. It was a Christopher Leach exhibit Vernissage. (eerrr free champagne...) so we had fun watching the near-gothic paintings and then we went off for a meal!

Y por la noche nos fuimos a la Galeria de Arte de Babsy, amiga de Michi. Allí nos encontramos con Katja. Inauguración de la exposición de Christopher Leach. (o sea, champán gratis!).

VIENNA

Breakfast in Mole West at Neusiedlersee...
this lake gets frozen in winter and people skate on it...
warmer temperatures are worrying the locals,
the lake is frozen but not frozen enough
as to be safe to skate or drive on it.
Shame, because I wanted to ice skate in the wild!


Esmorzar al Neusiedlersee, llac que es congela a l´hivern i la gent hi pot patinar. Aquest any no esta prou glaçat i no s´hi pot patinar.. quina pena! No fa prou fred.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Hoy he aprendido 3 cosas:

-Todos somos diferentes. Diversidad es riqueza. Sin embargo, los prejuicios y los estereotipos sociales nos hacen juzgar y encasillar a las personas a primer golpe de vista. Hoy he aprendido que no hay que juzgar a nadie, y que las personas que por algún motivo son discriminadas sufren mucho, muchas veces por dentro. Hoy voy a intentar mirar a los demás con diferentes ojos. Inténtalo tú también.

-Todos tenemos necesidad de Amor. Los que tienen amor deben luchar por conservarlo, y los que todavía no lo tienen o lo han perdido no deben enamorarse de quién ya saben que no se van a enamorar: ante todo, hay que respetarse a uno mismo y hacerse valer.

-Arantxa i Joan han tenido su primera hija: na Laia!

Today I have learnt 3 things:

-We are all different. Diversity is beautiful. However, stereotypes and prejudice make us judge people at first sight. Today I have learnt that while that is a natural thing to do for human beings, we must keep an open mind and give everyone an opportunity to shock us. Those who by any reason are discriminated against suffer a lot, and most of the time only quietly. Today I will try to look at everyone with a different frame of mind. Try it too!

-We are all in need of Love. Those of you who have found it must fight to keep the flame. Those of you who have lost it or haven´t found it yet must not try and fall in love with whomever they already know can´t fall in love with. Respect yourself. It´s worth it!

-Arantxa and Joan first baby is born: her name is Laia!

SATURDAY NIGHT - SÁBADO NOCHE

No fever, SORRY! but lovely sardines with tomato bread at Mar i Terra Restaurant Espanyol in Southwark. The best spanish meal in London! Went there with Isabel and we had to finish up dancing at G.A.Y. Certainly better than I remembered!


Sábado noche... pero sin fiebre! Sardinas y pan con tomate en Mar i Terra Restaurant Espanyol en Southwark en Londres. A Isabel le encantó! Y después unos bailes en el club G.A.Y., que está mucho mejor de como lo recordaba!

16 NEW PEOPLE

16 nuevas personas...

Hoy en el trabajo he conocido 16 nuevas personas... 16 nuevos empleados, 16 vidas divergentes que hoy se han convertido en paralelas... 16 personalidades totalmente diferentes... el gordillo, la madre de 6 hijos, un chico de Oriente Medio, una chica de la India, un señor mayorcillo, un chico guapísimo, otro señor más joven, uno a quién le encanta cocinar, un extranjero asustadísimo, uno que me suena de algo, uno que no habla muy bien, un flaquillo, una chica risas, una chica seria, una chica muy bajita con gafas y una chica muy alta de ojos gigantes azules. Es increíble como enseguida nuestras mentes se quedan con cualidades que encasillan a una persona... mi misión es ahora aprenderme sus nombres y llegar a conocerles a todos. Sin duda hoy puede marcar un cambio en mi vida... de entre los 16 puede surgir una gran amistad, un amor, un compañero de viajes, quién sabe! La vida es una caja de sorpresas.

Today I have met 16 new people at work... 16 new team members, 16 totally different life paths which today have become parallel, 16 totally different personalities: the chubby boy, the mother of 6, the guy from the Middle East, a girl from India, an older gentleman, a very good-looking guy, a younger gentleman, someone who loves cooking, a very nervous foreigner, someone who rings a bell, a guy who has difficulty in his speech, a very thin boy, a very funny girl, a very serious one, a very short one with glasses and a very tall one with giant blue eyes. It is amazing how our brain picks up on qualities who define a person... my mission is now to learn all their names and to get to know them well. No doubt today my life might change: amongst these 16 unique personalities I may find a very good friendship, or a lover, or a travel companion... who knows! Life is full of surprises.

RETORNO VIA TOKYO

Pues sí, vuelta via Tokyo, así un poco largo el trayecto, pero es alucinante con la maravilla que me encontré: los lavabos del aeropuerto nipón son de alta tecnología. Con sólo apretar un botón un chorro de agua calentita hace las delicias que no hace el papel... y lo que más me asombró es la puntería del chorro! Definitivamente vuelvo a pasar por Japón. Realmente me lo pensé dos veces, pero es que tenía que probarlo!

My return from KL was via Tokyo... quite a long way around but well worth it considering my discovery! Toilets in Japan are absolutely state-of-the-art. By simply pushing the blue button -see pic above- a warm water spring aims exactly there... I thought twice about it but I had to try it! Definetely considering travels through Japan in the future!

Last day in KL. Before the flight, time for a few good-bye´s: to Pilar in the Embassy, where we all had lunch together and then to fellow blogger Susana, who also lives in KL. Should I move there?

That is definetely a plan!

LAST NIGHT IN KL

Avui dia 1 es l'ultima nit a KL. Anem a sopar a l'egipci prop de casa. Parrillada de carn a la brasa, de tot menys porc. El cambrer es diu Mohd (o aixo em sembla, no ens entenem ni despres de demanar-li per tercer cop!) ben jovenet, treballa de cambrer de 12 a 12 cada dia... i sovint se li deuen fer la 1 o les 2 del mati abans no plega, per que aqui tothem menja al carrer i molt tard! I a mi m'havien dir a l'escola que la esclavitud ja no existeix! Un pensament...

Tonight is my last night in KL. We went to the egyptian for a meal. Mixed grill, everything but porc, charcoal grilled. Our friendly waiter's name is Mohd (or at least I think, I found it too rude to ask again for a fourth time after my all attemps to understand him failed!). Yhe young boy works here from 12 to 12, which sometimes becomes 1 or 2 am... people here eat late! Slavery? I'm told it's abolished right now on earth... not quite sure. Food for thought.

Despres anem a blueboy a ofegar les penes, que avui tenim a les Spice girls!

La nostra favorita es la Baby Spice, la rossa del mig, que de dia fa massatges al carrer del costat de casa! la pobre no se sap ni la lletra ni la coreografia! i la que ens fa mes por es la Scary Spice: em va fer sortir a l'escenari i vaig haver de petonejar-la! (es la primera de l'esquerra)

Later we go to Blueboy, tonight: Spice Girls special!

Our favorite is Baby Spice, named so because she is pregnant! She is the one wearing the blonde wig right in the middle and during the day she works as a masseur near home! She doesn't know the lyrics nor the routine! Scary Spice (the first on the left) is definetely the scariest, specially since she dragged me out on stage and made me kiss her! I am sure I must be on somebody else's blog right now too!
